Meeting Minutes: May 11th, 2009
The following minutes were taken at the May 11th meeting. These minutes are pending approval.
Attending: Erica Brown, Diane Dauwalder, Cindi Griffin, Penny Lambright, Cindy Hibbert, Anne Richards, Carol Keefe, Peter Keefe, Dee Moynihan, Eric Hieser, John Johnson.
Meeting begins at 7:06 p.m.
1. Minutes from April 9th meeting approved.
2. Treasurers Report: Ending Balance is $13,626
3. Administration Update by Eric Hieser:
Career Day was very successful and the students hope to have it again next year. There were twenty-seven presenters.
IB Exams have started - the kids are feeling challenged. The average senior is taking six exams.
Newsweek's report of America's Top High Schools will be published soon. Sturgis is expected to move up on the list from it's current position.
Justin Scott has received his IB Examiner Authorization for ITGS.
There will be a Charter School meeting regarding what to do with the Stimulus money we will be receiving - $80,000 over two years.
Eric will be giving a short information session at the hearing on Charter School Legislation.
Juniors will be taking a field trip on May 18th to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.
Upcoming Dates: Awards Ceremony is May 21st at Cape Cod Community College. Math MCAS for Sophomores is May 19th and 20th, Science MCAS is June 4th and 5th. Pre-test for class of 2013 is June 6th. Finals are June 9th - 12th. Faculty Luncheon will be June 10th. Teacher's Welcoming Breakfast will be August 27th. First Day of School is September 2nd.
4. After-Prom: Jake Taylor and his band would like to play at the after-prom. Eric mentions that all members of the band would have to fill out appropriate paperwork, just as a non-Sturgis prom guest would have to do. So far after-prom is on track. Chaperons are on board.
5. SPA Officers: Resigning this year from their current positions are Erica Brown as Chair, Tom Morin as Co-Chair, Cindi Griffin as Secretary. Running for a second term as Treasurer is Tom Dauwalder. All seats are open for nominations. Please consider becoming a part of the Sturgis Parent Association leadership. We hope to vote at the July Ice Cream Social meeting.
6. Scholarship and other expenditures: Five scholarships totaling $2,500.
7. New Business: Rachel reminds us that the coffeehouse is May 28th at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. Marion Weeks is looking for help providing desserts and lemonade. A notice will be placed on SturgisParents.com asking for assistance.
